Los estudiantes del Club de Sostenibilidad del Colegio Rochester, junto con su profesor Matthew Reis, han logrado un destacado reconocimiento en el prestigioso evento "Proyecto Nacional de Desarrollo de la Educación Energética" (NEED) por segundo año consecutivo.
El evento, que premia a estudiantes, profesores y líderes de programas por su excelencia en la educación energética y la divulgación comunitaria, reconoce los esfuerzos sobresalientes en la promoción de la sostenibilidad y el liderazgo estudiantil.
Con un currículo centrado en la sostenibilidad, la energía y la educación ambiental, el Colegio Rochester ha estado a la vanguardia de la enseñanza de prácticas ambientalmente responsables y la promoción de la conciencia de la relación entre las formas de energía y sus impactos sobre la ecología. Esto se evidencia en el trabajo que lideró el Club de Sostenibilidad del Colegio Rochester, que se ha destacado por sus ambiciosos proyectos, que incluyen la implementación de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de la ONU en todo el colegio, la promoción de la energía fotovoltaica, la reducción del desperdicio de alimentos en la cafetería y la investigación sobre la planta de tratamiento de aguas residuales, entre otros.
Uno de los proyectos más destacados fue la creación de casas fotovoltaicas, donde los estudiantes demostraron su comprensión de los conceptos de energía solar y los enseñaron a sus compañeros más jóvenes a través de una Campaña de Héroes de la Energía.
Adicionalmente, el club organizó una venta mensual de plantas autóctonas para recaudar fondos y restaurar el ecosistema local, así como el Desafío del Desperdicio Cero, que logró reducir significativamente el desperdicio de alimentos en la auditería.
Gracias a estos esfuerzos, el Colegio Rochester fue galardonado como Colegio del Año a nivel internacional y obtuvo el título de Finalista Nacional Senior en el evento. Como resultado, tanto los estudiantes como su profesor, están invitados a la Conferencia y Premios NEED Youth Energy en Washington, D.C., donde tendrán la oportunidad de compartir sus logros y aprender de otros líderes en el campo de la sostenibilidad.
El reconocimiento obtenido en la competencia de NEED es un testimonio del arduo trabajo y la dedicación de los estudiantes y sus profesores. Este éxito no solo destaca el talento y liderazgo del Colegio Rochester, sino también el compromiso del Colegio Rochester de formar ciudadanos del mundo, conscientes y comprometidos con la sostenibilidad y el medio ambiente.

Rochester School Sustainability Club Students Dazzle at the NEED National Energy Competition
Rochester School Sustainability Club students, along with their teacher Matthew Reis, have achieved outstanding recognition at the prestigious "National Energy Education Development Project" (NEED) event for the second year in a row.
The event, which awards students, faculty and program leaders for excellence in energy education and community outreach, recognizes outstanding efforts in promoting sustainability and student leadership.
With a curriculum focused on sustainability, energy, and environmental education, Rochester School has been at the forefront of teaching environmentally responsible practices and promoting awareness of the relationship between forms of energy and their ecological impact. This is evident in the work led by the Rochester School Sustainability Club, which has been noted for its ambitious projects, including the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals throughout the school, the promotion of photovoltaic power, the reduction of food waste in the auditeria, and the research on the wastewater treatment plant, among others.
One of the most notable projects was the creation of photovoltaic houses, where students demonstrated their understanding of solar energy concepts and taught their younger peers through an Energy Heroes Campaign.
In addition, the club organized a monthly native plant sale to raise funds and restore the local ecosystem, as well as the Zero Waste Challenge, which succeeded in significantly reducing food waste in the cafeteria.
As a result of these efforts, Rochester School was selected as School of the Year at an international level and earned the title of Senior National Finalist at the event. As a result, both the students and their teacher are invited to the NEED Youth Energy Conference and Awards in Washington, D.C., where they will have the opportunity to share their achievements and learn from other leaders in the field of sustainability.
The recognition earned at the NEED competition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students and their teachers. This success not only highlights the talent and leadership of Rochester School, but also its commitment to building conscientious and committed citizens of the world, committed to sustainability and the environment.
