Lanzamiento Exitoso: Estudiantes de Octavo Grado Aplican las Matemáticas en el Proyecto Mathapult

Los estudiantes de octavo grado del Colegio Rochester asumieron un emocionante reto de integración entre ciencia, tecnología y matemáticas: diseñar y construir una catapulta que cumpliera con exigencias específicas de distancia horizontal y altura máxima del proyectil.

El proyecto, titulado Launch & Learn: The Mathapult Mission, permitió a los alumnos aplicar sus conocimientos en contextos reales, no solo desde el diseño físico del artefacto, sino también al calcular la expresión matemática que representa el movimiento del proyectil.

Este ejercicio práctico no solo fortaleció su comprensión de funciones cuadráticas, sino que también desarrolló su pensamiento crítico, la resolución de problemas y el trabajo en equipo, demostrando cómo las matemáticas pueden impulsarse —literalmente— a través de la creatividad y la experimentación.

Successful Launch: Eighth Graders Apply Math in the Mathapult Project

Ninth-grade students at Colegio Rochester embraced an exciting challenge that blended science, technology, and math: designing and building a catapult that met specific requirements related to the horizontal distance and maximum height of the projectile.

The project, titled Launch & Learn: The Mathapult Mission, gave students the opportunity to apply their learning in real-world contexts—not only by creating the physical device, but also by calculating the mathematical expression that describes the motion of the projectile.

This hands-on experience not only strengthened their understanding of quadratic functions, but also nurtured critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration, showing how math can be launched—literally—through creativity and experimentation.
