In an effort to make greater use of our LRC’s spaces, and to offer different experiences to our students, the LRC team has organised a suite of hosted daily activities during recess time, and they’ve proven quite the hit in a number of ways.
Monday Chess:
To take advantage of the new worldwide craze for this very old sport, the LRC dedicates Mondays to all things chess - whether it’s to hone your skills during a friendly match, learn tips and tricks from fellow students or LRC staff, or play for real in our second annual Rochester Chess Tournament, LRC Mondays are helping to build a strong and talented chess community here at school.
Tuesday Book Club:
Tuesday is the day for our Middle School Book Club, which is enjoying its second iteration this year. We have nurtured a small and loyal band of library enthusiasts, who have shared their literary tastes, enjoyed improvisational games, and have even shared their impassioned and thoughtful “future famous” speeches inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr Day. the MS Book Club is a safe space for powerful ideas, wacky imagination, and mutual respect.
Wednesday Origami:
The Lower Elementary students know: you need to get to the LRC early to be sure of a space at the highly sought-after Wednesday Origami table. From the simple to the complex, our Origami Queen has built a strong rapport with not only our littlest Origami Experts, but a faithful group of Upper Elementary and Middle School students as well.
Thursday Handicrafts:
Thursdays sees Susi share her wealth of know-how, experience, and technique with our willing handicraft devotees. There’s nothing like the advice of a professional, as our handicraft group learned from making their very own Nativity Scenes recently.
Friday Film:
And what better way to end the week than by sharing a short film session with friends? Whether it’s a classic crowd-pleaser, or the latest from the Apple TV+ collection, Friday Film Day is leaving the crowds thirsty for more.
Not only are our Weekly Recess Activities attracting more and more students to our spaces, but they’re also building friendships, confidence, and helping build a stronger love and respect for libraries in general.
El CRA: el lugar donde estar

En un esfuerzo por hacer un mayor uso de los espacios de nuestro CRA, y para ofrecer diferentes experiencias a nuestros estudiantes, el equipo del CRA ha organizado una serie de actividades diarias durante el tiempo de recreo, y han demostrado ser todo un éxito en varios sentidos.
Lunes de ajedrez:
Para aprovechar la nueva moda mundial de este deporte tan antiguo, el CRA dedica los lunes a todo lo relacionado con el ajedrez: ya sea para perfeccionar tus habilidades durante una partida amistosa, aprender trucos y consejos de tus compañeros o del personal del CRA, o jugar de verdad en nuestro segundo Torneo Anual de Ajedrez de Rochester, los lunes del CRA están ayudando a construir una comunidad de ajedrez fuerte y con talento aquí en el colegio.
Club de lectura de los martes:
Los martes es el día de nuestro Club de Lectura de Secundaria, que este año celebra su segunda edición. Hemos formado un pequeño y leal grupo de entusiastas de la biblioteca, que han compartido sus gustos literarios, disfrutado de juegos de improvisación, e incluso han compartido sus apasionados y reflexivos discursos "futuros famosos" inspirados en el Día de Martin Luther King, Jr. El Club del Libro de MS es un espacio seguro para las ideas poderosas, la imaginación chiflada y el respeto mutuo.
Origami de los miércoles:
Los alumnos de Primaria lo saben: hay que llegar pronto al CRA para asegurarse un sitio en la codiciada mesa de Origami de los miércoles. Desde lo más sencillo a lo más complejo, nuestra Reina del Origami se ha ganado la confianza no solo de nuestros pequeños expertos en Origami, sino también de un grupo de fieles alumnos de Primaria Superior e Intermedia. Jueves de manualidades: Los jueves Susi comparte sus conocimientos, experiencia y técnicas con nuestros devotos de las manualidades. No hay nada como el consejo de un profesional, como aprendió nuestro grupo de manualidades al hacer recientemente sus propios belenes.
Viernes de cine:
¿Y qué mejor manera de terminar la semana que compartiendo una sesión de cine con los amigos? Ya se trate de un clásico que guste al público o de lo último de la colección Apple TV+, el Día del Cine de los viernes deja a la multitud con sed de más.
Las actividades del recreo semanal no solo atraen cada vez a más estudiantes a nuestros espacios, sino que también fomentan la amistad y la confianza, y contribuyen a fortalecer el amor y el respeto por las bibliotecas en general.
