PK students are learning about the sun, earth, ocean, and water, to raise awareness about daily practices they can follow at home and in school to help keep our planet healthy. With this in mind, we read the story “How to Help the Earth - by the Lorax” written by Tish Rabe which teaches students some simple sustainability strategies that can be incorporated into their daily routines such as brushing their teeth.
As a home experiment and first-hand experience, PK students used a bucket or pitcher to measure the amount of water wasted when they left the faucet running while brushing their teeth and then compared the amount to the amount of water saved when using only a cup of water when brushing their teeth. This experiment has given our kids and their families a clear example of how small changes that can be made at home that will have a positive effect on our environment.

Uso de la lectura para mejorar hábitos sostenibles: cómo el Lorax puede enseñarnos sobre el uso sostenible del agua
Los estudiantes de Prejardín están aprendiendo sobre el sol, la tierra, los océanos, el agua, y están adquiriendo conciencia sobre las prácticas diarias que pueden adoptar en casa y en el colegio para mantener saludable nuestro planeta. Teniendo esto en cuenta, leímos el cuento “How to Help the Earth - by the Lorax” (“Cómo Ayudar a la Tierra - Por el Lorax”) escrito por Tish Rabe. Con este libro los niños aprendieron estrategias de sostenibilidad que pueden ser incorporadas en sus rutinas diarias como es el lavado de dientes.
Como experimento en casa, para vivir una experiencia de primera mano, usando un balde o jarra, los niños de Prejardín midieron la cantidad de agua desperdiciada al dejar el grifo abierto mientras se lavan los dientes; luego lo compararon con la cantidad de agua que pueden ahorrar si utilizan un vaso. Este experimento le mostró tanto a los niños cómo a los padres los pequeños cambios que podemos realizar en casa para tener un efecto positivo en nuestro ambiente.
