As far as reading goes, Rochester students have set off on a spectacular start this school year. This September has been by far the best one since we started using the Destiny catalog. Students borrowed an average of 66 books per school day, which is double our results from last year. I extend hearty congratulations to all the parents, teachers, and, above all, students who have made this possible.
As reading just 15 minutes a day can help increase vocabulary and fact-based knowledge, improve grades, increase the likelihood of graduating and the capacity for empathy, and even reduce stress levels significantly, this result is cause for celebration. Speaking of celebration, we’d like to take the time to recognize and congratulate our Rochester Readers of the Month.

Readers of the Month
3rd Place Morella Gamez from 1st C and Mariana Ibañez from 2nd C, both with 8 books already borrowed.
2nd Place Emilio Tat Cheung from Second C, Pablo Enciso from First B, Sara Gómez from First C, Lukas Niño and Silvana Salgado from Second C have each borrowed 9 books.
1st Place However, our hats go off to Sahani Giles and Luciana Sarmiento, both from Third A, with 10 books already read this year. Wow!
Older Readers of the Month
3rd Place Luciana Acevedo, Lucía Barrera, Tomas Benavides, and Sebastián Camacho have all borrowed 5 books from the LRC this academic year.
2nd Place Daniela Bernal, Manuela Santamaría, Juan José Piedrahita, Daniel Loboguerrero, Juan Antonio Klopper, Manuel de Freitas, Matías Castellanos, and Gabriela Castaño have all read 6 books this school year.
1st Place The reading champions from middle school and beyond are Oscar Venales, Sara Suárez, Gabriel Acosta, and María Victoria Díaz, who have all already read an amazing total of 7 books each. Amazing job!

1st Place And now, for Rochester’s reading champions, First C, with 123 total circulations, meaning that each student has, on average, read 5 books this year already.
RAZ Kids Achievements
First grade students are not only borrowing hundreds of books, but are also logging in for thousands of minutes on their new reading application, RAZ Kids. This fun, interactive platform is causing quite the sensation among our first-graders, both at school and at home, and we’d like to single out the greatest readers on this app for the month.
First B students are by far the most voracious readers in RAZ kids, having logged in as a group for more than 1,300 minutes this month, which translates into 269 books listened to and almost 200 read. Looking at exceptional individual readers using this app, we find that:
Mariana Rincon from First C has been taking great advantage of RAZ Kids, logging in for 142 minutes, reading 14 books, and listening to 20.
Emilio Salcedo leads First A, having read and listened to 35 books as well as completing 47 quizzes.
But Maria Jose Martinez from First B is the RAZ Champion this month, having read 59, and listened to 76, books. Congratulations on the fantastic effort!
We at Rochester are strong proponents of weekly Family Reading Time, so that all can experience the Joy of Reading as a way of bringing the family together, and the above students are thus a great inspiration to us all.

En lo que respecta a la lectura, los alumnos de Rochester han tenido un comienzo de curso espectacular. Este septiembre ha sido, con diferencia, el mejor desde que empezamos a utilizar el catálogo Destiny. Los alumnos tomaron prestados una media de 66 libros por día lectivo, lo que supone el doble de nuestros resultados del año pasado. Mi más sincera enhorabuena a todos los padres, profesores y, sobre todo, alumnos que lo han hecho posible.
Dado que leer sólo 15 minutos al día puede ayudar a aumentar el vocabulario y los conocimientos basados en hechos, mejorar las notas, aumentar la probabilidad de graduarse y la capacidad de empatía, e incluso reducir significativamente los niveles de estrés, este resultado es motivo de celebración. Hablando de celebración, nos gustaría dedicar unos minutos a reconocer y felicitar a nuestros Lectores del Mes de Rochester.

Logros de RAZ Kids
Los alumnos de primer curso no sólo piden prestados cientos de libros, sino que también se conectan durante miles de minutos a su nueva aplicación de lectura, RAZ Kids. Esta plataforma divertida e interactiva está causando sensación entre nuestros alumnos de primer curso, tanto en el colegio como en casa, y nos gustaría destacar a los mayores lectores de esta aplicación del mes.
Los alumnos de primero B son, con diferencia, los lectores más voraces de RAZ kids, ya que se han conectado en grupo durante más de 1.300 minutos este mes, lo que se traduce en 269 libros escuchados y casi 200 leídos. Si nos fijamos en los excepcionales lectores individuales que utilizan esta aplicación, encontramos que:
Mariana Rincón, de Primero C, ha aprovechado muy bien RAZ Kids, conectándose durante 142 minutos, leyendo 14 libros y escuchando 20.
